Domestic violence

Does only physically assaulting someone count as domestic violence?

Many people have serious misconceptions about domestic violence, believing that only physical beating and injuries resulting in bleeding constitute domestic violence. In fact, domestic violence encompasses more than just physical assault; many hidden forms of harm also fall under this category, but they are often overlooked and tolerated by people.

Apart from physical violence, verbal violence, mental violence, and cold violence are all typical forms of domestic violence. Daily long-term insults, demeaning and suppressing, personal attacks, continuous indifference and ignoring, deliberate estrangement, and refusal to communicate can all cause serious harm to the body and mind and are considered legally recognized acts of domestic violence.

Many victims have been enduring hidden domestic violence for a long time, but they console themselves by saying it’s just a quarrel between spouses or a mismatch in personalities, and they don’t know how to protect themselves. Letting the mental harm accumulate over time can be even more demoralizing and is more likely to trigger psychological problems such as anxiety, inferiority complex, and depression.

To protect oneself, one must first recognize the full picture of domestic violence. Whether it’s explicit physical harm or hidden mental depletion, as long as one is subjected to malicious treatment for a long time, there is no need to endure it silently. Facing the harm and daring to seek justice is the correct way to protect oneself.
